The Caine event is a player-discovered cooperative mechanic that bridges Sanity systems, in-game chat, and map progression. It does not appear in any quest log — instead, specific game states and a chat keyword unlock a hidden sequence leading to the Cellar. Understanding exact requirements saves time on crowded post-update servers.
Core Requirements
Abstract state: One player must be fully transformed with zero Sanity. Mid-drain states do not trigger the event.
Helper player: A second human-form player on the same server must type the chat keyword while standing near the Abstract player on the Ground Floor.
Chat keyword: Type Caine (C-a-i-n-e, not Kane or Cain) in the experience chat. Alternate: caine! on some servers.

Event Sequence Timeline
Standard order: Abstract transformation completes → helper types "Caine" near you on the Ground Floor stage → Caine NPC appears → floor opens → drop into Cellar. Caine's voice line: "And into the cellar you go."

Chat vs Phone Interactions
